Certain Uncertainties.
The Malaysian artist Sabri Idrus makes dynamic abstract art that deals with control, chance, movement, and time. Each of these is something that people experience every day. Through his strong colors and graphic line Sabri seduces the viewers’ imagination. - Gina Fairley

Power : Now and There.
Watching his works evolve through these years, I have seen Sabri catapult to mastering the perfect balance between chance and control. Recognized for employing a mix of unconventional materials in his abstract pieces, Sabri allows his varied mediums to meet and flow organically. Yet, every decision in his painstaking process—from the choice of medium to the application of each layer on canvas— is grounded in intention and purpose. This combination of choices for each work then results in a unique, absorbing harmony of colors, lines, textures, and fluid movement. - Jasdeep Sandhu, Gajah Gallery.

Recovery Plan.
Scanning across this group of paintings there is no disjuncture, no gaps or furrows. The spatial conversation flows from one painting to the next; it finds its nexus in the passage of Sabri’s career and yet pushes forward with clear understanding of a direct proposition and material exploration. The in-between has become the point of definition, not non-definition.- Paula Tin Nyo
Recovery Plan - exhibition catalogue, 2016.

Masa Series: a Reduction Process
When Sabri proposed his idea for Masa Series, he embarked from his previous designing process and started from a point where it was new for him. His long journey in art making had landed him in an art residency program in Poland, where he worked, studied, explored and ventured into new things, producing new “stuffs” that are more experimental than his already experimental approach. - Hafiz Ammirol
Masa Series - exhibition text, 2010.
